The Story
The opening track on YÄȘN YÄȘNâs new album, Yatta!, begins with a sample of the philosopher Alan Watts expounding: âThere is no Yang without Yin and no Yin without Yang.â
Appropriately enough, the track â a jubilantly upbeat slice of disco action â is called âIn Search of Yang,â and begs a question about the meaning of the groupâs name. The groupâs drummer and co-founder, Kees Berkers, explains: âYin Yang is about balance between two different forces and Yin Yin would essentially mean two negative forces that cannot reach a common ground. So, YÄȘN YÄȘN is about finding a balance in the unbalanced.â
