The Story
Nobody Loves You More is Kim Dealâs debut album, although itâs technically not her first release under her own name â she self- released a 5-part, 10-song 7â vinyl series in 2013, and beyond that, sheâs earned her stripes as early as the late 80s with bands Pixies and The Breeders. The long-awaited recordâs creation began with its oldest songs, âAre You Mine?â and âWish I Was,â which were written and recorded in 2011, and included in 2013 vinyl series, shortly after Deal concluded Pixiesâ âLost Cities Tourâ and relocated to L.A. In the years since, the record took shape in pieces, with a variety of collaborators including Breeders past and present (Mando Lopez, Kelley Deal, Jim Macpherson, and Britt Walford), and new friends like Jack Lawrence (The Greenhorns) and Savagesâ Fay Milton and Ayse Hassan. Tracked over the last several years, the recordâs last recording was helmed by iconic engineer and Dealâs close friend Steve Albini, tracking âA Good Time Pushedâ with Jim and Kelley in November 2022.
Sonically versatile and infectious, the record is a celebration of Dealâs unmatched artistry, nodding not only to her career highlights with celebrated bands across the alternative landscape, but also to her immovable cultural weight, including her impact on current young musicians such Olivia Rodrigo (Deal and The Breeders supported her Guts World Tour this year). At one of her sold-out MSG dates with the band, Rodrigo told the crowd: âI thought Kim was the coolest girl in the world. Iâm very inspired by them and everything they stand for. They are absolutely iconic.â
